Shoreline Community College’s Zero Energy Class Attends Sustainable Workshop

Last Saturday developer/builder Martha Rose, owner of Martha Rose Construction, held a half-day workshop at her latest development Fish Singer Place for a group of students from nearby Shoreline Community College’s Zero Energy Building Program.

The goal of the Zero Energy Building Practices Program is to provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills necessary for a career in sustainable building design, construction, maintenance and management.  Emphasis is on residential and commercial building design with specialties in passive solar and sustainable (green) building design and photovoltaic (solar electric) system design.

“This is a perfect fit” mentions Adrian Willanger, founder of Eco-Redux, who has been doing the marketing for Fish Singer Place.  You can only do so much in the classroom, being at a site and witnessing firsthand what a leading builder is doing is invaluable.

This training will enable students to prepare for the Silicon Energy Manufacturing Solar Installation Certification and the National PV Installer Certification through the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners NABCEP

Shoreline’s program is aimed at “zero energy technology,” a term that refers to construction practices and energy use and production that can allow energy-neutral buildings and lifestyles. Rose’s newest collection of houses should have an E-Scale rating of 30 which mean they are 70% more energy efficient than a traditional code built house.

Fish Singer Place has been an active learning center for sustainable development and building with over 1500 people having come through since January.
